Skip Rules for Class Chats

Rules for Class Chats

  1. Always be polite.
  2. You can chat freely until the Magister says otherwise.
  3. When the formal part of the class begins (this happens as soon as the Magister asks his first question to the full class), direct your comments directly to the Magister’s questions. Do not make unnecessary comments.
  4. If you want to ask the Magister a question during a teacher-directed conversation please make sure it is relevant. If it is not directly relevant, but you still feel it is important, please say you would like to ask a question and enter. The Magister will then call on you.
  5. If you have to enter a class chat late, please do so quietly and do not interrupt the class in mid-session with questions as to what has happened while you were gone. It is is the student's responsibility to be on time. If the student cannot be on time, he or she needs to wait until the end of class to ask about what was missed. If you have to leave a class chat early, please do not interrupt the class to say goodbye to everyone. This is also disruptive. If you know you are going to leave early, you can announce that fact at the beginning of class during free chat.
  6. Please also do not acknowledge another student entering or exiting the chat while the class is in order.
  7. When the chat is over, you must leave the chat room. Do not stay to converse unless the Magister is still present.
These rules are necessary for the proper operation of the class. These rules are not designed to eliminate enjoyable conversation. In fact, they are the only guarantor of it. Chaos is the enemy of good communication. There will be plenty of time for fun conversation during chats, but only if everyone follows the rules.

Adults Interested in Classes

Are you an adult interested in taking a course? We have had a number of parents contact us who are interested in taking our online courses. We cannot include adults in our middle and high school groups of students, but if enough adults are interested in a class, we may be able to justify having one.

Let us know if you are an adult interested in taking an online course by contacting Martin Cothran at martin@memoriapress.com.

Make sure you indicated which class you are interested in.
